About Digital Video Recorders
Digital Video Recorders provide many advantages over analog systems. They are today's standard for video surveillance and high tech integrated security systems. Some of the many advantages to DVRs are:

Superior Image Quality
Digitally recorded images are superior to most analog tape systems. DVRs provide better identification of persons and events with the ability to adjust color, contrast, light levels and zoom in to effectively analyze previously recorded images.

Recording Flexibility
DVRs have many easy to use options such as motion detection for each camera with the ability to selectively record video just prior to and slightly after motion is detected. These record to hard drive space making it easy to playback anytime. Sensitivity and picture quality is also adjustable for each camera input.

Time Savings
With DVRs you have instant access to stored information using high-speed search capabilities. You can review, download, copy to USB drives, CD-R, DVD, or transmit recorded activity all in a few minutes.

Remote Video
Remote software allows transmitting and receiving live or recorded video over your internet connection, ISDN, T-1, DSL or cable modem. Local and wide area networks may be used anywhere they are available. Phone/network must be provided by the user(s).

No Recording Loss During Playback
Most DVRs simultaneously record, archive and playback at the same time, allowing the captured video to be viewed/analyzed and downloaded while recording real time events.

Reliability - Less Maintenance
DVRs have longer life expectancy than VCRs and require little or no maintenance. Tape recorders need regular cleaning, adjustments and major service around 20,000 hours.

Additional Advantages of DVR's
No videotapes to change or replace, plus added security, password protected with different levels of access.

Remote Viewing Facts

You can view Live and Recorded Video from your Digital Video Recorders using a high speed internet connection.  The type of connection you use will determine the data transfer rate and the video frames per second viewable on a remote computer or laptop.

Connecting your DVR, and Remote Computer via the Internet is accomplished through the use of an IP address.  There are two types of IP addresses, Static IP and Dynamic IP.  Your Internet provider can assist you in making the proper decision.  A Static IP should always be your first choice.

All DVR’s sold by AVS have the Remote Software Package included ready for installation in the local PC and Remote Computer/Laptop.

A Cable Modem may be connected directly to the DVR if no other device such as a Computer is used, however if you plan to have a computer and DVR both connected you will need to add a Router to your system.

Don’t be misled into believing that you can view Live Video in Full Motion, thirty frames per second from anywhere on any computer or any Internet connection.  This is one of the most misunderstood features about DVR’s and Remote Viewing.

Although the view will always be real time, the frame rate of the display will depend on the actual data transfer rate of the Internet connection and the CPU Processor speed of the remote computer.  Frames may be dropped in order to keep the view current at any point in time.

When viewing multiple scenes where there’s more video being transferred you will experience a slower rate.  The highest speed or frame rate will occur when viewing single camera views at one time.

AVS has a highly qualified staff to answer your questions, to provide service and support for most existing systems, or a choice of several professional grade DVR’s to satisfy your needs, and meet most financial budgets.
